On October 7, the California Employment Development Department (EDD) invited VeteranDegrees to present on education benefits and career pathways for veterans and military-connected individuals.

The session was held virtually, beginning with a brief slide introducing the presentation and welcoming Christina from VeteranDegrees. We appreciated the opportunity to contribute, and we wish to share insights relevant to our university partners.

VeteranDegrees is dedicated to supporting veterans and their families by helping them compare education benefits, explore veteran-friendly programs, and plan career pathways.

In our daily engagements with veterans, a recurring challenge emerges: while veterans have access to significant benefits, understanding eligibility, applying those benefits effectively, and selecting education paths that align with personal goals can be complex. The challenge is seldom a lack of support but rather a need for clear, accessible guidance at the critical moment of deciding the next steps.

This invitation from a public agency like the EDD holds particular significance. Organizations that work with job seekers and career changers interact with individuals precisely at the point when education decisions begin to take shape.

Providing these organizations and their clients with clearer information about benefits and pathways helps veterans pursue their next steps with greater understanding and confidence.
